On the importance of eating bananas
ON THE IMPORTANCE OF EATING BANANAS
“Anna,
nalku bale kodi”[1] this is the daily mantra for the entire six week course at
Atmavikasa. Then you call home and from the other side of the line they seem
worried, ‘pay attention you will not go to toilet any longer’ a friend warns you or
conversely ‘you will develop obesity with all that sugar!' says an aunt. Beloved family and friends, here is the
reason why we ought to eat at least four bananas daily:
Boost your energy as this
fruit is rich in magnesium and potassium. The former good for creating more
muscles when the latter is good for recovery after physical activity.
A healthy smile in a healthy body as they
are rich in vitamin B9 that has antidepressant properties.
Not able to sleep? Eating
bananas helps in fighting insomnia and good to regulate stress. Dream lovers, a couple of bananas half hour before sleep and you will have sweet and mellow dreams!
A better digestive system
and reduced blood sugars, hence a cravings for less junk and more healthy food.
Nevertheless, bananas
helps in regulating our biological clock because rich in fibres which makes the digestion slower hence a small dose of natural sugar for a long time.
After a run or physical
activity, bananas are ideal because rich in glucose which is the fastest fuel to boost your system.
I have to admit that the love for the yellow fruit, which botanist says it is actually a berry, started way before listening to the famous album of Andy Warhol and the Velvet Underground. I actually went deep into it after starting following a blog on raw-vegan living written by an Italian friend. I have been invited to teach yoga in a raw-vegan retreat and there I could finally experience the benefits of this wonderful fruit. Even since, I was crazy about banana and while living in Belgium I remember the astonished face of the supermarket keeper that was seeing me daily leaving the shop with between a kilo or two of bananas. Even in this last work experience in Capri, Italy, as vegetarian diet was a big question for the chef at the various restaurants, I could survive mainly on bananas and canned chickpeas.
You never get sick of this wonderful, yellow fruit and...a little secret, if you are on diet and miss that savoury taste of ice-cream...just freeze a couple of bananas and make a nice an smooth paste to mix with all as many delicious fruits and raising as you like. A simple way to make happy both your monkey mind and your dear body.
